America’s drug death capital: heroin in Huntington, West Virginia

An Appalachian river town with a population of 49,000 people, Huntington has been losing jobs for decades and more than 25,000 population from 1970 to 2010.  One in four of the current residents is addicted to opioids.

Other facts: In one five-hour period 28 overdoses. One in ten of the babies born at the local hospital suffers from drug withdrawal. West Virginia has the highest rate of drug overdose deaths in America.
