Savannah Weinstock looks at “Old”whiskeys, notably Old Overholt, a rye that she finds only adequate, Old Grand-Dad, which she likes very much, and Old Crow, which she considers the best of the lot.  She mentions a couple of other “Old”whiskeys and cites her separate review of Old Forester which did not impress her.  These evaluations appeared at the end of a brief history of American whiskeys, including the challenge of heavily advertised vodkas in the 1970s and 1980s.
