Fentanyl is an opiate 50 times more potent than heroin.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, there were 2,482 drug related, accidental deaths in the state in 2014, an 18-percent increase over 2013. Fentanyl was involved in 502 of those deaths last year, up 84 from 2013, the report said. Last year’s overdose deaths also included a record 1,177 related to heroin, up from 986 in 2013.
